All British newspapers highlighted the racing Greyhounds plight, following the recent article published by the Sunday Times July 16th 2006. Reporter Daniel Foggo denounces the racing industry’s cynicism and the fact that the killers of Greyhounds who makde the job for trainers and for little scrupulous owners. A journalists team followed Mr David Smith who, for 10 £ by Greyhound, had the choice to rehome the dog in a foster family or to euthanize the dog.
Instead of looking for an adopting family, the man electrocuted Greyhounds and used their bones as fertilizing for his garden. About 10.000 Greyhounds were slaughtered by this only man, during ten years. Nice benefit for owners and trainers : a veterinian euthanasia costs approximately 50 to 70 £.
British newspapers have widely published this scandal (nota : some links may be inactive yet) : The Mirror, The Sun, The Daily Mail, BBC News, The Guardian. Two Greyhounds trainers face being banned from the sport after being
photographed taking dogs to be slaughtered by a builders’ merchant and buried in his back garden. Read the article published by The Times. We can however regret that serious pursuits are not launched against them to punish them more severely.
